(but potential to manage an Reckitt project team)


No of Indirect Reports: 0 (Internal)
(but managing external suppliers resources)

 

Financial Responsibility (Direct): Approx. 100 kGBP (personal + project operating budget)


Financial Responsibility (Indirect): involved in development & investment budgets (1 – 15 mio GBP)

SUMMARY

 

A Mid-Low Management level role (R&D Associate) with complex projects management involvement and authority. Supporting / Leading Big / Medium size NPD projects. High Visibility and interaction with Senior Management in CDO, Supply and R&D mostly. 

SCOPE / DIMENSIONS OF ROLE

 

The role will require to coordinate and operate within multi disciplinary project teams with overall aim to delivering business critical NPD and/or Novel Manufacturing Processes. 
Best background for this role is to have a technical specialism as a base but with broad general interest for product and manufacturing development, bringing the product to the market (with all the different angles to that) but participating in all project stages, from Ideation to Post-launch, supporting Project Teams on R&D Engineering responsibilities and managing some specific tasks with increasing autonomy and responsibility as experience and knowledge are growing.
As a TPL, or supporting a TPL, will take key technical decision for the product development. Working together internally with functions like Marketing, R&D, Supply, and Sales. Externally with Manufacturing partners and suppliers of raw materials and packaging components.

 

A hands-on approach is required through all projects’ stages, in particular in development, implementation and start-up/launch phases. In those activities, decision making will be required, taking all the input from different parts of the business and weighing all the risk factors, initially with monitoring and support from Managers, progressively with increasing autonomy and accountability, but always as part of a Technical Team with R&D and Supply.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

   -    Support, Run or Lead Manufacturing Process Development
    -    Support or act as TPL for Complex Projects, typically NPD. 

    -    When acting as “Technical Project Leader”, he/she ensures that a realistic project timeline is set up together with the category and all technical colleagues. He/she is the custodian of the Technical Success Criteria and Project Time Line through to launch. He/she also sets up project budgets and ensures that relevant Investments are prepared (by the relevant people) at the appropriate time in the project and that the project is never held up by lack of funding.
    -    The Technical Project Leader ensures that there is an adequate technical (R&D and Supply) team, with all interested parties represented, in place to progress all aspects of the project. He/she organises regular meetings and/or telephone conferences to ensure that the relevant people are kept up to date and that progress is made according to the timeline.
    -    When supporting a TPL or performing specific study, design, development or implementation/start-up tasks, usual for R&D Engineering, he/she will take direct (increasing) responsibility on those tasks as they are or become part of knowledge and expertise. 
Basic Functions / Activities
    - Designing, Developing and Building new equipment and machinery / bring up new ideas 
    - Establishing and monitoring project in order to achieve the objectives set in Success Criteria 
    - Coordinating between internal divisions and customers
    - Building effective relationships with the customers and Stake holders.
    - Supervising and monitoring vendor performance
    - Developing, improving and executing project implementation plans
    - Controlling project schedule, quality, cost and performance
    - Managing project documentation
    - Monitoring project progress and ensuring activities are completed according to plan and Timeline
    - Support or Serve as Technical Project Leader (=Project Manager) for some key projects (medium complexity, medium size) under Manager Supervision:
        - Preparation of COGS financials and Capex proposals. 
        - Delivery of the project on-time, in budget and to the agreed Quality and COGS.

KEY CHALLENGES

 

Delivering a new product to the Market, or new process / material to Reckitt Operation,  can face issues from many different areas. The TPL or Supporting role must ensure to identify those issues in early stages and address those issues either by him/herself or organise the resources to resolve those issues ASAP.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

 

QUALIFICATIONS – Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field.
Engineering background preferred, but at least good knowledge of (and interest on) manufacturing processes and products / materials are required.  Depending on the project this can be Process, Mechanical, or Electronics Engineering. Or specialised disciplines as Aerosol technology, injection moulding/plastics technology, Blending – Dosing, or Packaging technology, as examples

 

EXPERIENCE – Preferably 10yrs post higher education experience in a dynamic FMCG technical / project role. At least 5 years of experience in Engineering / Technology with a focus on implementation / delivering products / equipment in/for the FMCG producing companies.
> 2 years experience in project management with multi-disciplinary and international teams.

Preferably experience in working with suppliers across different countries / continents / cultures.

•    Business language in Reckitt is English, therefore fluency in English is essential and fluency in local languages advantageous
•    Possess knowledge & have basic skills in product and process costs structure and its factors
•    Experience in estimation, engineering, procurement
