Micro Quality Supervisor

This position is responsible for organizing and directing the daily operation of the Environmental Microbiology (EM) and Allergen Labs.  This is a fast-paced, high output production lab.  This position is further responsible to actively assure that laboratory operations are compliant with applicable regulations and internal standards. 

•    Coordinate with day shift Micro and Allergen Lab supervisor and oversee the off-shift operations
•    Develops team and builds an effective operating culture by utilizing performance management process to set expectations, ensure ongoing coaching and assesses an employee’s performance, directing a team of 8 analysts. 
•    Work with operations teams and others to drive to effective root cause analysis and corrective action/Preventative actions with issues related to EM and Allergen labs. 
•    Ensure product meets quality specifications.
•    Communicate closely with EVV counterpart to align SOPs, methods, practices and procedures. 
•    Monitor and improve key performance indicators in lab testing metrics to drive continuous improvement, i.e. turn around time, on time release, right first time.
•    Ensures safe work environment and safe behaviors for self and coworkers.
•    QC budget accountability
•    Special projects as assigned.


•    Education:  Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related science degree background.
•    3 years of Team/lab management/supervision experience preferred. 
•    In depth knowledge of microbiological and allergen testing methods, aseptic techniques, food safety and HACCP principles.  Knowledge and experience within the FDA regulated environment preferred. 
•    Computer skills:  Microsoft Applications.  Knowledge and experience with quality electronic systems such as SAP, GLIMS, and Optiva.
•    Excellent project management skills and experiencing driving critical projects to completion within agreed upon timelines required.
•    Experienced in ERS/CSV Validation process desired
•    Demonstrates interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively lead others within a team environment. Experience with Lean principles, Kaizen or other continuous improvement processes also desired.
